AVENEL TRASH REMOVAL SERVICES - Regular Household Trash

It is important that you have your trash outside for collection by 7:00am on Mondays and Thursdays.  Trash should be placed outside of the garage door inside lidded cans.  Trash cans inside, or behind, the garage door will not be picked up.  All trash inside trash cans MUST BE bagged. 

While some residents place trash at the curbside, this practice is discouraged for aesthetic reasons. 

Homeowners on Turnberry Drive and Turnberry Court, with porticos under the steps, may leave the trash cans in their porticos for pick-up.

RECYCLABLES

Recyclables pick-up is a Montgomery County provided service and are picked up on Tuesday

Should you have any questions about what you should recycle or any associated matters and to request your recycling container, please call the Montgomery County Government at (240) 777-6410. 

Recyclables are to be placed at the curb by 7:00am on Tuesday in the blue container provided by the County for that purpose.  Please put your plastics in the bottom of the container and your newspapers either inside a paper bag or tied with a string, on top.  Boxes must be flattened, tied with string, and placed at curbside.

BULK / OVERSIZED REFUSE ITEMS

"Bulk items" include, but are not limited to, televisions, sofas and furniture, computers, mattresses and frames, construction debris, roof trusses, carpeting and carpet padding, bicycles, tires, microwaves, or any other related bulk/oversized items. 

Should you have the need to dispose of these items, please contact Potomac Disposal, Inc. at (301) 294-9700, to schedule a FREE bulk pick-up.  This is a free bonus service provided to the residents of Avenel only by Potomac Disposal. 

Conversely, you may also contact the Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services at (240) 777-6410 to schedule a bulk item pick-up.  For up-to-date information and rules regarding County provided pick-ups, please refer to their website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/solidwaste.

APPLIANCES

Appliances including, but not limited to,  refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, BBQ-grills, and dryers can be picked up on your regular recycling collection day, as these items are considered "Scrap Metal" by Montgomery County.

You will need to call Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services at (240) 777-6410 no later than 9:30am on the business day BEFORE your collection day to schedule a pick-up with the County.

The appliance must be placed at curbside on the scheduled day; for safety reasons, please remove the doors from any refrigerator or freezer prior to setting it out for removal.

You may wish to make arrangements to have your old appliance(s) removed by the company that delivers your new appliance(s).

YARD WASTE / TRIMMINGS

Homeowners may dispose of normal yard waste by placing the waste material in brown paper bags or in special biodegradable bags (Kraft bags) and placing them at the curb on your regular recycling collection day.  You may use trash cans marked “Recyclables” in addition to or instead of the paper bags. 

Branches must be tied in reasonably sized bundles and placed at the curb.  Large logs and/or tree limbs must be broken down or cut into manageable sizes for pick-up.  For up-to-date information and rules regarding County provided pick-ups, please refer to their website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/solidwaste.

Questions or problems with yard waste pick-up services should be referred to Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services at (240) 777-6410.  

UNACCEPTABLE REFUSE / HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

Potomac Disposal, Inc. will not accept any items considered “hazardous” such as batteries, paint, paint thinners, pesticides, swimming pool chemicals, etc. as part of their free bulk pick-up service.

Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection Sponsors a Hazardous Waste Collection Program which handles disposal of hazardous items such as those mentioned above. Please call (240) 777-6410 for information about collection sites and dates for disposal of hazardous wastes.

Potomac Disposal, Inc. will also not accept items whose size, composition or placement may damage their equipment during operation.  These items include, but are not limited to: metal components, mortar, brick, cement blocks, plasterboard, steel doors, pallets, and other large wood frame items. 

The Avenel Community Association cannot pick up and dispose of hazardous materials or other items as described in the above paragraph.

PLEASANT GATE AT AVENEL TRASH REMOVAL SERVICES - Regular Household Trash

Potomac Disposal, Inc. is under contract with Avenel to remove the residential household waste four (4) times each week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday) from the large containers stored in the four (4) enclosures in Pleasant Gate.  There are a number of things that you can do to make this effort work better.  They are:

1. Always put your household waste inside one of the large containers.  When you set your trash on the top, the lids cannot be opened by the next user.  Potomac Disposal, Inc. is not responsible for your loose trash – only emptying the containers!!  All trash inside trash cans MUST BE bagged.

2. DO NOT put recyclables in the large container.

3. Pick up any trash that you drop in or around the enclosures.

PLEASANT GATE AT AVENEL - RECYCLABLES

Recyclables are newspapers, cardboard boxes, aluminum, glass, and plastic.  The recyclables are to be placed in the blue bins provided by the County and the bins must be placed at the curb by 7:00am. Be sure to put your house number on the bin, using a black marking pen. Bins must be removed from the curb before the end of the day. Please put your plastic containers, glass jars, bottles, cans and foil products in the bottom of the container and newspapers, either inside a paper bag or tied with a string, on top.
